“I see your scientific, peer-reviewed study and I raise you an anecdote about a goat.” It would appear one of the unwritten laws of the internet is that on a news story about a scientific study disproving alternative schools of thought, one of the first reader’s comments you’ll see is an anecdote disagreeing with the science.
While we all hold equal right to voice an opinion, it’s worth noting that doesn’t mean all opinions carry equal weight. If you’re not basing yours on evidence and reason, you’re going to lose out.

The reason for my absence over the last few week is due, in part, to the above photo, and the process of moving our entire lives from central Wellington to the idyllic country town of Martinborough. It strikes me that the protesters currently waving placards in Northland against Top Gear are suffering from a bout of petty idiocy. When someone wants to film for 45 minutes on your beach and showcase it to a potential audience of 350 million, it might just be worth turning the other cheek.
